I do have but it was not taken in Rio. The main event was being held in Rio de Janeiro yearly but it was happening all over Brasil.I wasn't able to visit Rio because everything was fully booked. I settled for a Carnival in a small but famous historic town of Ouro Preto.

@ Ivy - I was there during the Carnival season (and stayed there for a month). It was crazy! I wanna come back for more
I watched The Machinist last night. It was filmed in 2004 but I never had the chance to see it. So, to satisfy my insatiable mind, I went torrent hunting.
Christian Bale plays Trevor Reznik, a machinist who hadn't slept in a year, an insomniac. To play the part and be convincing, Bale had to lose 60 lbs. His body was so frail and skeletal looking that a quote from the movie can describe his physique "if you get any thinner, you wouldn't exists".
The deformed body of Christian Bale (Batman The Beginning) keeps popping on my mind everytime I think about the movie. The guy went thru hell just to play the part. I can't imagine that the actor is the same guy who played the part of a muscled dragon slayer in the movie Reign of Fire. Christian, in his usual best, is outstanding as Reznik. No wonder hollywood rewarded his dedication with Batman series.
Bale started his acting career with Spielberg in the movie Empire of the Sun. He was only 13 years old.

Blood, not a problem. I've worked in the operating room before. We got so used to it we can eat "dinuguan" right after surgery! Anyway, I'll take note of the Cleaner.
I think I'll make a pass on the other three. I'm quite picky with action movies. I just watch the really good ones like the Vantage Point for instance.
I never really thought about going Brazil. Right now I'm fixated on Iran and Jordan. Although I'm sure it would be nice to go to Brazil on th their annual festival and join the girls on the parade!

It's a pleasure Ivy!
Latest I've seen:
1. Cleaner - Starring Samuel Jackson as a former policeman who retires and now works as a crime scene cleaner. The plot is the usual washed-up police story but nevertheless, entertaining. The story unfolds slowly but gets interesting at the middle part. If you're scared of blood then don't watch it.

Due to my recent trip to Brazil, I became interested in anything about the country. I watched City of Gods prior to that and wonder if there's more where it came from. Luckily, my Brazilian host recommended me two.
2. City of Gods (Cidade de Deus) - Gangs, kids with guns, drugs, violence and poverty! The story revolves around group of people living in Brasil's Favela (can be compared to a squatter's area back home). It depicts the lawlessness of the neighborhood and shows how young mind can be corrupted at an early age.
Rating:
3. City of Men (Cidade dos Homens) - They usually tag this as City of God part 2 but it ain't (though the casts may look familiar). The story is about two best friends who were caught-up in a gang war in Favela. As usual drugs, guns and lots of guns!
Rating:
4. Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad) - So who will stop these merciless war lords? Who else but BOPE! The Elite Squad of the police force in Brasil tasked to penetrate Favelas. Based on a true-story about the dirty harry styled squad who deals with Brasil's tug using extreme force. This movie became a success and controversial as well. The soundtrack is awesome!

Don't let these movies scares the shit out of you in travelling to South America. Brasil is the most beautiful country I've seen so far.

Jek, guess what? I got most of the DVD movies you said that are nice to watch. Last night an Indian guy suddenly popped in front of our door and he's got loads of pirated DVD movies!
Last night, my husband and I watched Vantage Point and loved it. It's a fantastic movie with a capital F! Never got bored, action-packed right up to the end.
Tonight, I watched 27 Dresses, predictable, mushy but so sweet. Reminds of the movie "How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days". I like movies like this, witty humour and it lightens up my mood after long day at work.
Thanks for the recommendations. I know who to ask about movies next time!
