One-Minute Miracles |

Here's a confession: Even though I often
spend hours perfecting the makeup of models and celebrities, I hardly
ever take more than a few minutes doing my own. That's because my beauty
routine revolves around products and techniques that have a major impact
with minimal effort--after all, who has time to fuss? To help you create
the same "wow" factor with your makeup, here are seven of my favorite
tips. Each one takes just a minute to do, and you'll love the results.
Skin
Add a sheer sheen
People always say to me, "You're glowing." Here's the secret for you to
adopt: After applying your makeup, warm a dab of oil-free moisturizer or
balm in the palms of your hands; then gently press the excess into your
cheeks and forehead. The added hydration creates a youthful, sheer
sheen. Try Nivea Visage All Around Protection Crème ($9; drugstores) or
Bobbi Brown Extra Soothing Balm ($50;
Bobbi Brown
Cosmetics).
Even out a ruddy complexion
Why use mounds of concealer, foundation, and powder to counteract
redness, when one easy-to-use bronzing powder can do the job better and
faster? Bronzers (yes, you can use them year-round) are loaded with rich
earth tones such as copper, amber, and chestnut that cancel out
ruddiness. Try Revlon New Complexion Bronzing Powder ($13) or Neutrogena
Healthy Skin Blends Natural Radiance Bronzer ($12; both at drugstores).
Eyes and Cheeks
Wake up tired eyes
After applying your regular eye shadow, smudge a shimmery white one on
the inside corners of your eyes to minimize darkness. Try Maybelline
Expert Wear Eye Shadow in Vanilla ($4; drugstores). Take another minute
to brush on two coats of mascara--the fastest trick for looking a
hundred times more rested.
Create larger-looking eyes
Use a darker shade of eyeliner (like black) on your top lids and a
lighter shade (such as charcoal) along the bottom lash line. (To really
make your peepers pop, try a brighter-colored liner, such as
sapphire-blue or emerald-green, on the top lids.) Make sure the top and
bottom lines meet at the outer corners; this will make eyes look even
bigger.
Score sky-high cheekbones
The key to looking like you were born with Christy Turlington's
cheekbones isn't to brush on loads of blush, but to place it just so.
Sweep a neutral-colored blush toward your hairline and then brush a
bright pink on the apples of your cheeks. For a dramatic effect, finish
by placing three dots of shimmery white eye shadow on the top of the
cheekbones and then lightly blend.
Lips
Plump your pout
Everyone wants fuller lips; here's how it's done: Apply a creamy
lipstick that's a few shades brighter than your normal lip color (darker
shades tend to make lips look thinner) and use a liner that's close to
the shade of your lipstick to line and fill in your lips for a
long-lasting natural look. As a final touch, dab a clear, high-shine
gloss like DuWop Lip Venom ($15;
Sephora) in the
center of both lips.
Play up your pearly whites
Whether your teeth are newly whitened or you want them to look that way,
opt for blue-based pink lipsticks such as L'Orèal Volume Perfect
Re-Shaping Lipcolour in Pink Pucker ($10; drugstores) or American Beauty
Enduring Beauty Longwear Lipcolor in Cherry Blossom ($12.50;
Kohls). Unlike
yellow-toned shades, which enhance discoloration, blue-based ones boost
the brilliance of your smile. |
